Our
History
A quick history
that brings us to where we are today: Back in the late 1970’s my
grandfather, Thomas Webb, was asked to manage the Yellow Iris Farm
of Leslie Blanchard in Newton New Jersey. My grandfather was an
experienced horseman and dealt with the many facets of the industry
from breeding to training.
I can remember as
a young boy visiting on the weekends and spending a lot of time
during
the summers at Yellow Iris Farm. The two stallions on the farm were
Yellow Iris Hamilton and Yellow Iris Stevens. The most popular out
of the two, without a doubt, was Yellow Iris Stevens. I can recall
his fluid and elastic motion which commanded your attention. For a
young boy, this was truly an exhilarating experience on a beautiful
farm. Thus, a dream was being formed.
In 2005, we built
a home on several acres in Nicholson, Pennsylvania. Very quickly I
realized a long time dream may actually come to fruition. I became a
member of the Morgan Horse Association and began researching what
had become of the Yellow Iris line. I was able to locate Dan and Julie
Williams in Midland, North Carolina at the time. They had several of
the Yellow Iris horses after the farm had broken up, including
Yellow Iris Stevens. He had died about 5 years before but I was able
to purchase one of his last sons WTS Stevenson (Yellow Iris Stevens
x Yellow Iris Shaun). A dream was fulfilled.
WTS Stevenson is
still a stallion in hopes to continue the legacy. One of the
things I found interesting when returning to the breed was the
difference in their size and conformation. Although I like the
beautiful headset we are seeing and front end animation I feel we
are losing some of the characteristics of the breed not to mention the hock
action and solid footing that the older bloodlines provide. The
posture that we have taken at Thomas Webb Stables is exactly what
our motto declares,
“BRINGING A TOUCH OF THE PAST INTO THE FUTURE.”
